Considering Your Medium

In Joe Wood’s blog post about Digital Literacy and the Common Core, he points out that we must take advantage of new technologies in order to help our students meet the Common Core standards. They need to be literate in the technological tools that are available to them, and they need to know when each of these tools is appropriate for their purpose. I think that being deft at technological tools and their uses is also a way to tap into learning about the context of the material being consumed and produced (which can be a key tool for college readiness). It’s important to grasp how medium/environment can affect content.
He also mentions the value of Writing Workshops, which is mentioned as one of the main writing tools in this blog for first-year teachers about Writing Essentials. She also mentioned creating a “New Teacher’s Survival Kit.” I’ll definitely be checking this blog out some more!
